GiftOasis Startup Profile
GiftOasis is an online marketplace that makes it easy to find unique gifts made in North Carolina. Each item is expertly crafted by an artisan who runs a small business.
The site allows you to see all of these products and learn the stories behind them. You can purchase each gift directly from its maker.
"Sustainability means that business can be harnessed to make a positivie social impact," says founder Ron Clabo. "GiftOasis was born as a way to help small business owners and their families succeed."
"There are many family-owned small businesses in North Carolina that make nice wonderful things but struggle to market their product," Ron says. "My goal is to leverage my background in e-commerce and Internet marketing to help them."
GiftOasis is in the bootstrapping phase and will soon launch a beta version.

Favorite thing about Durham
The knowledge and talent pool. "I've been moving a lot in my life," says Ron, who is originally from Alaska. "But, after graduating from the UNC Kenan-Flager business school in 2007, I decided to stay because of the entrepreneurial activities going on in Durham and surrounding areas."
"The business community is pretty tight," he says. "Also, we have three major universities that are constantly creating awesome new talent and an underrated sheer knowledge base that people can access through the free library system. There's a ton to like about this area."
