StatSheet Startup Profile

Founded by Robbie Allen in in 2007, the company is headquartered in Durham, North Carolina, and aims to change the world of sports media.

StatSheet is a digital media company leveraging a proprietary content generation platform capable of automatically transforming massive amounts of historical and real time data into highly relevant, analysis-rich narrative and graphical content.

The company's fully-automated publishing engine powers a network of fan-centric sports sites designed to give sports fans the information and analysis they want – when and how they want it.

StatSheet's technology allows them to access both real-time sports statistics and a proprietary database of over a billion stats to generate a level of in-depth analysis and insight on every team, player, coach and game unmatched by any other media website.

Currently, the StatSheet network consists of  345 sites that provide in-depth coverage for every Division I college basketball program in the nation. The company intends to apply its automated publishing platform to grow its network to 800 sports sites that will cover all college and professional sports. Over time, StatSheet will expand its technology to data-intensive verticals other than sports.

Trivia: StatSheet is involved with local investors Valhalla and IDEA Fund.

Favorite thing about Durham

The  energy and growing peer network of early-stage tech startups. "I used to work at Square 1 Bank on its Square Roots program," says Adam Smith, VP of Operations and Finance at StatSheet. "I worked with a lot of startups as part of that, and that's how I got involved with StatSheet. I am a big fan of Durham and the whole Triangle in terms of the business opportunities they offer."

Adam recently shared extensive insight with Fast Company about why businesses should locate to Durham – you can see it here.
